Fashion Advice You Must Heed

Nordstrom sells them.

Target sells them.

My mother used to wear them.

But I will not. Ever. Never ever. No gauchos. No culottes, even if you spell it "c-o-u-l-o-t-t-e-s."

Some fashion trends must be resisted, rejected, refused. Join me. Please.

Because if you don't, you realize what we'll have to wear next, don't you?

High-waisted jeans. Then pretty soon, we'll all be wearing leg-warmers and ripped sweatshirts and headbands, and not in a cute-Reese-Witherspoon way, and really, do you want to go there?

I honestly don't mind them - as long as they aren't the stupid low-riders that expose butt crack.

I love me some culottes. But high waisted jeans? No way. They enhance the little... let's call it a bulge ... that used to be my nice flat tummy.

Okay, nobody should be wearing those gauchos. This law has been determined by the "does it look okay on my sister?" experiment. She's got the very tall, very skinny super model/very early stages of puberty 14-year-old boy body that is currently in vogue and we went shopping for a pair of these (for her, not me) last summer. We spent all day in downtown Chicago and did not come across a single pair that were flattering to her in the least. That's serious business.

Couldn't get to the second link, but the items at first one just look like ordinary long shorts... I've been wearing things like that for years. In a hot country, when one doesn't want to wear short shorts, and skirts are a pain, they're ideal.

Mind you, I'm shocked at the prices. I don't think I've paid more than £10 for a pair, which is approx $20 US.

AS for jeans, I wear waist-waisted ones. I'd prefer high to low waists. But then I'm not a teenager...

I regret the days I used to sit around with my grandma's Lane Bryant catalogs and laugh my fool head off.

I've been had.

The capri pants were fine, but gauchos? I haven't recovered from being forced to wear them by my fashion challenged mother in the 70s. I'm scarred for life, I tell ya!

This is what passes for fashion now?

Next they'll be trying to bring back bell-bottoms (again)

Oh thank you for saying exactly what I was thinking. Gauchos are ugly. And they make big thighs look bigger.

High waisted jeans will not take over the world b/c most of us are not thin enough to carry that look off. Of course, that never stopped some people from doing low rider jeans with their flab spilling out, so who knows?

Have you seen the frilly Victorian blouses they want us to wear with the gauchos? Ugh.

LOL...my daughters wear them, and they call them gauchos. I told them they will look at their pictures in a few years and exclaim, "What are we wearing?" I have been planning to write an entry about it.

For years, because of the church I went to that did and still does frown upon women wearing pants of any type, I wore culottes. I detested them. I detested always wearing skirts and dresses, too. Then I had an 'epiphany year' that changed my ideas on a lot of things, just not my love for the Lord. My culottes are LOOOOOOOONG gone and I hope they stay gone FOREVER!!!!

I have started seeing those gauchos again at church. Women do not look good in them. Some women can look good in culottes, but no one looks good in gauchos.

The last time I wore gauchos was in a middle school play in which I played a reporter. Not just any reporter, mind you, but one who was also a space panda from the planet Crestview, the fourth world in the Goolagong system. The gauchos are part of the whole crazy memory, and I can't see myself ever wearing them again without feeling like a space panda.

What bothers me the most is that if it all comes back then it all comes back and we would have to all have really. big. hair. again. Oh, the pain. Oh, the agony. I just. can't. take. it.

My 1st thought in seeing those high waisted pants was, "that might be better than those low riders that some people wear" I hate seeing people in pants where their fat hangs out for me to have to look at and where I see the top of their pubic hair. Gross!

Ummm...already doing the ripped sweatshirt thing here! Oh, and you'll be horrified to know that I broke down and bought DD3 some CROCS! But no gauchos. No way.

mel--

schmoopie insisted on trying on a pair at Old Navy last week while I huddled in the corner of the fitting room holding my head and murmering "no, no, PLEASE, make them go away." Even on her perfect and tall figure, they looked ridiculous. They should be sent back to the ninth circle of hell from whence they came for all eternity. men.

Wise choice, grasshopper. You have learned your fashion lessons well.

I'm presuming you have also added sweater vests to the list of "never in a million years". If not, consider doing so, or your many children will mock you severely behind your back.
